HUG Spectacles

HUG Spectacles are a new definition of luxury - an awareness for what is truly valuable and desirable today. A balance of a fulfilling yet responsible lifestyle.

The brand was founded in Germany in May 2020 by Thomas Hobmaier, Frederic Utz and Jochen Gutbrod. The name HUG is simply the initials of their surnames but the team strives to design and produce optical frames and sunglasses that embody the values of a hug – they make you feel good!

The partners have a wealth of experience in the optical industry: Jochen in design, Thomas in sales & communication whilst Fred is a master craftsman. The founders had wanted to create a collection based on their own ideas for some time. Spurred into action and with a common goal and sense of aesthetics, they launched their own brand within a year of joining forces.

Music, and in particular, the blues, has influenced the brand. Each frame takes its name from a blues legend and even the rivets used in the frames are in the shape of a guitar pick (plectrum).

HUG frames are handmade with love in Germany. The team partners with a highly respected and well-established factory in Bavaria that has been making premium eyewear since 1957. Exceptional craftsmanship and the latest technology combine to produce outstanding results. Of course, the materials used including acetates, hinges and temple inserts are all of the highest quality too. All design and production is carried out in a fair and sustainable way and production runs are kept intentionally small, ensuring less waste and of course, exceptional attention to detail.
