Vision matters for Road Safety Week

Road Safety Week 2023 is here. It serves as a timely reminder of the importance of good vision when driving.

Driving requires your full concentration. You need to be able to see what is ahead of you clearly whilst also processing threats from the side as well as checking your mirrors.

It is important to have good visual acuity, so you can see sharply in the distance and good visual fields, a phrase describing your ‘all round’ or peripheral vision.

According to the DVLA, “You must be able to read (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate made after 1st September 2001 from 20 metres.”

If you have concerns about your sight or simply haven’t had an eye examination in the past two years, please book an appointment here.
